Engineered wood planks are a combination of up to 1/4 inch of natural wood – known as the Lamella – which is bonded under high pressure to a strong core of many thin layers of plywood. The result is a flooring which is resistant to shrinkage and expansion so is able to be laid over cement floors and also on top of underfloor heating if installed by an experienced floor layer.
For advice on which fitting method is best for your floor and for what purpose the room will be used you really need to employ the services of an experienced and professional wood floor layer.
At Transformafloor we will gladly arrange a home visit and quotation free of charge or obligation.
Engineered Wood Floor Finishes
As the top visible layer is pure natural wood, these floors are available in virtually any type of suitable wood finish including: Oak, Ash, Walnut, Beech, Maple and also available in a distressed finish.
As with solid wood floors, a lacquer finish is used to protect and enhance the grain, this can be a matt or gloss finish . This also makes cleaning a relatively simple job and avoids a finish that is slippery when wet.
Looking further ahead, Engineered Wood Floors can be sanded and re-sealed but care must be taken to ensure that at least 0.5mm of the Lamella is left . With Transformafloor’s range this is not a problem. However, some inferior planks may only have as little as 0.6mm of Lamella to begin with so cannot be re-sanded. We at Transformafloor only lay floors that last, flooring that we are proud of, engineered wood flooring that is beauitful.
